Live Locally. . .
Our summer issue is one of my favorites, though more difficult to finish as sunny days and kids on vacation scream procrastination. It’s too hard to avoid enjoying outdoor theater, open-air music, events with my family, beer festivals, and of course all the ideas for projects in my home and garden.
Wade Wallerstein is home for the summer from Sarah Lawrence and is joined by Brenda Norrie, our newest San Jose State journalism intern. It is great fun to watch these two find their way into the world of journalism.
We have been fortunate to hire young writers because of folks like Jay Lord, a local realtor, who called me a few months back and told me he loved what the magazine did for the Los Gatos community and wanted to support Wade’s column.
United Emergency Animal Clinic called just to offer us pet writers. Calls like these drive me even more to support local businesses that are vested in our youth and community. As someone who loves her pets almost as much as her kids, I was so thankful when these columns saved my cats’ eye from a pesky foxtail and urged me to take my puppy in for a pre-emptive skin check.
As you read this, we will be delivering out first Welcome Baskets to new homeowners in Los Gatos and Campbell and will expand to Saratoga, Willow Glen, and Los Altos by fall. So many businesses have jumped on board, helping us fill baskets with local foods, drinks, services, tickets to events, and great gifts for a house or garden that will greet new homeowners in our area. And of course each basket will have a copy of My Out&About Magazine!
Enjoy summer, create some terrific memories, do something spectacular, welcome a new neighbor and remember whatever you do — Live Locally!
