Hoorah for a bit of rain. Our hillsides are turning green in time for St. Patrick’s Day and yellow mustard fields are beginning to appear for all our runners, riders and walkers to enjoy as they race through our valley to cure cancer, help our pets and support our local youth this month.
Just before we went to press, I heeded the advice of Dr. Armann and took a break. And since this is the time of year we ask our readers to consider some of their favorite places (don’t forget to vote by mail or online by March 15!), I headed north , just past Woodside, to Filoli. More beautiful than I remembered, Filoli feels like a combination of Versailles, Butchart Gardens and Monticello. This spring it greeted me with thousands of daffodils and the sweet smell of hyacinth that followed me at every turn. Even my teenage son found it hard not to be impressed. Our Sunday escape happened during Bike Sunday hours when hundreds of cyclists, families, runners and skaters get out and enjoy the road closure on Canada Road at Edgewood Road, just off Highway 280. Acres of open space beckoned us to extend our spring day and made me appreciate the efforts of thousands of volunteers who work and fundraise year round to make these local treasures and opportunities possible.
This month the Mc in me jumps for joy as we welcome St. Patrick’s Day. It wouldn’t be a celebration without our friends at CB Hannegans in Los Gatos. And Dan Gordon, our beer writer, gets in on the party too. Bronwyn O’Malley, our mom in Los Altos, continues to find us events and ideas that any family can enjoy all month and Jennifer Shanks covers one of my favorites-cheese! We continue to bring you terrific class and camp ideas and kick off our popular home and garden content.
We are now officially home to the largest monthly print calendar in the area to get you Out & About!
Don’t forget to thank the businesses, sponsors and supporters who make each issue possible. And remember, whatever you do, be sure to Live Locally!
